How to Compress PDF Files

Email reject your attachment because it's too big? Website upload failing? Andromeda PDF's resizing tool drastically reduces file size while maintaining readability.

1

Choose Your File

Upload the document you need to shrink. There is no size limit since we don't upload your file to any server.

2

Select Compression Level

Low: Good for printing (minimal quality loss).
Medium: Best for sharing (balanced).
High: Best for archiving (maximum separation).

3

Process Locally

Click "Compress PDF". Our algorithm analyzes the images and fonts in your file and optimizes them instantly on your device.

Expert Guide: Understanding Compression

PDF files are often bloated because they contain high-resolution images meant for professional printing (300+ DPI). For viewing on a screen, you rarely need more than 72-150 DPI.

What we remove:

  • Redundant image data
  • Embedded fonts that aren't used
  • Hidden metadata and object streams

What we keep:

  • Text readability (vectors are untouched)
  • Form fields and interactivity
  • Document structure and bookmarks

Technical Insight: Vector-Aware Quantization

Our compression isn't just a "zip" file operation. We parse the PDF structure to identify XObject streams (images).

We selectively re-encode these heavy assets with optimized quantization tables (e.g., reducing a 5MB photo to a 200KB JPEG) while leaving the delicate vector text streams completely untouched. This ensures your document shrinks in file size but stays crystal sharp to read.

Save Your Data Plan

Imagine you have a 200MB file to compress. On other sites, you have to upload 200MB (slow!) and then download the result. With Andromeda PDF, 200MB of data never leaves your computer. We process it locally, saving you massive amounts of bandwidth and time.
